WITH ENGLAND.

U.S. SYMPATHY.

"FEELING AGAINST GERMANY" 8000 AHMT DENTBTS. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) DUNEDIN', this day. At the Outbreak of the present conflict .America's reported attitude made many New Zealanders both puzzled and aggrieved. A firm of wholesale druggists, with headquarters in Dunedin, when writing to American houses with which they are connected, mentioned this fact, commenting that it did not make members of the profession feel too kindly towards American products. Replies have now been received and they make heartening reading. One firm writes: "England has Bernard Shaw shouting that she is in the wrong, but we don't believe it here. The sentiment of this country is so definitely against Germany that there k no question about tit. r l9»e repeal of the Neutrality Act proves it. The man-in-the-street here does not have any idea of what the Government is doing to avert a possible war which, if it occurs, can be only against one aide. Since the war started 70 destroyers have been placed in commission, and plans arc afoot for 8000 dentists for our army— just to give you two examples." Another writes: "We are much concerned to learn from your letter of the report in circulation in New Zealand that the American attitude in regard to the European war is unfavourable to England or any of ite Dominions. T'his is the first intimation we have received of any such situation, and certainly it i« contrary to the real fact. Americans are definitely pro-British, with the exception of a small minority that is just as distasteful to the vast majority here as it can be to Britons. We Americans have no patience with, nor sympathy for the Allies' enemies, and it is unfortunate that rumours to the contraiVj have gained a foothold."
