A workman had a miraculous escape from serious injury at Bluff to-day when a 10-ton whistling buoy, which was being repaired on the ferry wharf, exploded with such violence that moftt of the town was shaken. The buoy, which broke adrift from Fairchild Rock. Foveaux Strait, some time ago. was being electrically welded when a piece about 2ft square blew out with a terrific explosion.
