WOMAN DOCTOR.
TRIP IN LIFEBOAT,
A woman doctor went out with the Aldeburgh lifeboat in England to search for two men who were reported to have been seen clinging to a lifeboat off the Suffolk coast. She is believed to be the first woman doctor ever willed out with a lifeboat. There" wae no man doctor available when the call came.
So Dr. Xora Acheson, wife of the lifeboatV usiiiil doctor, volunteered to go. The crew hesitated to take her. But if they went without a doctor some sailor's life might be lost. Dr. Acheson put on oilskins and a life-belt and climbed into the lw>at. For four hours the lifeboat searched the uneasy eeas. Bits of wreckage floated past, bits of clothing. Then, pathetically, a sailor's cap. Presently they came upon a whole heap of wreckage and more than a hundred caps. But there was nothing more. It was dark when the bo;it came back to the s'hore. A eiowd had gathered to welcome Dr. Acheson. (Jeorge Chatten, the coxswain, war; surrounded by eager friends. "We thought she wa» going to be seasick at first,' , he sitid, "tbut she made a goo<l sailor. It was very rough going all the way."
