ECONOMIC STABILITY.
AUSTRALIAN, TRADE FIGURES. CANBERRA, January 11. The value of the Empire to Australia's economic stability ie emphasised in an overseas trade bulletin containing final trade figures for 1938-39 issued by the Commonwealth Bureau of Census and Statistics. It is pointed out in the bulletin that British countries purchased 62 per cent of Australian exports during the year, while Australia obtained 57.79 per cent of its import requirements in Empire countries. Total exports for the year were valued at £112,201,372 (pound sterling), and imports at £102,150,302 (pound sterling), leaving an aggregate favourable balance of approximately £10,000,000 (pound sterling).
