GALLANT CONDUCT.
DOMINION PILOT-OFFICER. FLYING CROSS AWARDED. (By Telegraph.—rress Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday. Advice was received to-day of the award for gallant conduct of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Pilot-Officer G. W. F. Carey, of Christchurch, who is now in the Royal Air Force in England and who has been engaged in patrol work over the North Sea. Mr. W. R. Carey, the airman's father, lias received the following cablegram:— "Stockton-on-Tees, January 12. The fetation commander and officers commanding the squadron offer you the most sincere congratulations on the award today to your son of the Distinguished Flying Cross for gallant conduct. Paull, Squadron 220." Pilot-Officer Carey began his training at the Wigram aerodrome two years ago and has been with the Royal Air Force for 12 months. At first he was stationed at Thornley, being engaged principally in navigation. Then he was navigating officer at Thornaby and the last advice received by hie family was that he was transferred to the North Sea patrol as a pilot.
