TWO DROWNED.
RIVER TRAGEDY. SCHOOLBOYS' FATE. CANOE TURNS TURTLE. fatal change or plans(By Telegraph. —Press Association.) GISBORXE, this day. Two schoolboys who had ventured on the Taruheru River yesterday without their parents' knowledge were drown when a canoe which they had commandeered capsized in midstream* T e victims were: — Brace William Foss, aged ]l>the younger son of Mr. and - r». Percy Foss. Maurice Gabolinscy, aged 10, a son of Mr. and Mrs. A. Gabolinscy. The boys left home about 10 a.m. with the understanding that they were going to visit Foss' grandmother. When Mr. Foss returned from work la>t e\ening he went to fetch the boys, only to find that they had not reached then avowed destination. He then searched the river bank and found his son's bicycle. The police were notified, and au immediate search begun. Gabolinscy's body was found at 8.30 p.m.,'but that of Foss was not recovered until this morning. Subsequent inquiries showed that the boys had gone to the liver during the morning, and were seen by another small boy to get into a canoe moored on the river bank. After a time the canoe drifted into midstream, where it capsized.
