CHAMPIONSHIPS START. DOUBLES WELL ADVANCED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The official opening of the New Zealand croquet championships took place at Riddiford I'ark yesterday morning, when more than 200 competitors were assembled to take part in the tournament. The president, Mr. It. W. McCreath, welcomed the players and expressed pleasure at the large number of entries. Immediately following the reception the championships doubles began, and though intermittent rain fell during the morning 10 games were decided.
