COUNTRY TROTTING.

CAMBRIDGE DAY.

PROSPECTS REVIEWED.

CHANCE FOR TRANSWELL

CAVALRYMAN TO FORE 7

Only two nu(» meetihtfH will ho held in 'ho Dominion to-morrow, principal of which will h P the Cambridge Trotting Club's Centenary fixture. This event has attracted fields of nice size, and speculators "ill have recent form at Auckland to guide them in their endeavours to make the day's sport profitable. Betting will lie on the win and place system, and an excursion train will leave Auckland at 11-1.) a.in.. Newmarket 7.2 a.m.. arriving at Cambridge approximately 40 minutes before the first race.

I lie ..polling event, the Haereinai Handicap, lias attracted a Held of 18 novice perl orniers, and, despite his defeats at Auckland, ( uviilrytnari is entitled to serioiih cousidci ation. He was uncertain at the start in his race here, but the experience should stand liiiu in good stead Added to which is the fact that he has worked particularly well in the interim. A slight improvement by Kseobar, a good third tn Narbada and Kxeel at ClaudeliindH Oil Decem'lxT 2. when at a long price. would make him hard to beat, while the promising form displayed by JVawtim .1 unior and Northern Smile at Auckland, and Ncotty l)ire<t at Wellington eiii'lit U> them to Favourites may lie: (avulryman, Kscobar and Seottv Diiect.

Iti October Inst the American-bred stallion Worthy He I win, one of the acceptors lor the VY mil I lie-I'ii i Handicap, was Item-Un-supported nt Alexandra Park, but stood on the mark, and took practically no part in the race. He in a nice type of horse, iinil good tilings are expected of him. Josedaie Dictator disappointed at Auckland after liis third to Margin and Mah Jong on the second day. and now lias a chance to make amends, but Master \V rack, a place-getter at Waikato some months ago. Barney Bingen and (fold Kip will probably prove troublesome. The public may decide for Worthy Belwin, Master Wrack and Barney Bingen. Form A Pointer. Recent form points to Lynn Key and Transwell being the hardest to beat in the tantenary Handicap, as both horses bettered 4.32 when they finished second and thud respectively behind Peter Smith in the Te Kowliai Handicap at Claudelands on December 9. However, Bronze Queen has shown a sign of a return to winning form, „ n d even though Tinker has failed on several occasions since he defeated Bold Venture and n large field over two miles several months ago. he cannot Jiffhtly be discarded. He i* looking well and working well. Peter Smith will have his work cut out to concede 48 yards to •V? likely that investor* Will p.rerfer TranwweH, Lynn Rey and Bronze Queen.

Albertini and Wishful! members of M. Stewart's successful stable, won novice races at recent starts when susceptible to improvement, and they form a powerful combination in the Captain Cook Handicap. in which the .Tack Potts mare Grand Dame, a dashing stepper at Auckland until she broke, is also engaged. Kitty's Choice, another winner at (headquarters, is on tbe improve, while Kewpie's Jewel. Narbada and Novikoff are others on the up-grade, those in the call in the final run to the judge may be Grand Dame, Albertini-Wishful bracket and Kewpie's Jewel.

Master Baronet, Sir Echo and Excel are the only horses engaged in the Ao-Tea-Roa Handicap who are not also in the Haeremai Handicap, and speculators should be guided l>y the running in the first race, except, perhaps, in so far as Sir Echo is concerned. This six-year-old son of Ahuriri and Sincerity failed at Epsom on December 29 when heavily supported, but he had it, little trouble in running and is entitled to another chance. Maybe the public will prefer Eocol>ar, Cuvalairyman aind Ihi I/hi.

Limit horses in the Pioneer Handicap are sacrificing seconds to come into the race, and there is no getting away from the fact thafc Margin, with several sue* cessful placed performances and a win to her credit during the last three months; Barney Bingen, placed at? Auckland: Gold Kip, a winner at Cambridge a year ago; and Aurumar, returning to form, appear to dominate the position. The order of betting between the first three when the tote doses should be Margin, Barney Bingen and Aurumar.

The Pakeha Handicap in an open race, and investors will find that a number of the runners will have competed earlier in the day. ■ Hillcreet. a good pacer over this distance, raced well at Auckland, and _ Tangaroa also showed up, while Luminate performed satisfactorily in one of his runs at Epsom. Tinker. Tranawell and True Trust are others who are entitled to respect, but most popular will probably be Hillcreet, Tangaroa, TinkerChili Bean bracket.

TTie distance of the Empire Handicap should suit Kewpie's Jewel better than the mile and a quarter of the Captain Cook, and the Jewel Pointer mare will be bracketed with Bonnieaene. a winner on December 30. The ATbertini-Wishful combination is again in evidence, and so also are Grand Dame and Narbada. all referred to earlier. Punters may decide for Kewnrie's Jewel - Bonniedwne bracket. Wishful-Albertini bracket and Grand Dame. Details ot the fields are:— JI.3O—HAKRKMAI HANDICAP of £115. One mile and a quarter. Limit S.S. Alcazar . . . Lt. Neon Oro . . Lt.
