COLLISIONS AND CAPSIZES.

POWER CRAFT REGATTA.

THB TT-T-K AT WAIKAREMOANA.

TWO RACES ABANDONED.

(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) GISBORNE, this day. Power craft which participated in the annual regatta at Waikaremoana suffered the most severe buffeting experienced for at least eleven years, and the sport was characterised by a series of accidents. A crowd of 2000 attended. Craft from many parts of the North Island competed, including several from Gisborne and Wairoa, and representatives also from Auckland and Wellington. In the outboard handicap there were three capsizes and a collision. Thirteen started and only three finished. A collision occurred between B. Jenkins' Otahuhu Constantant and Stevenson's Gee Jay, from Wellington. The Otahuhu boat had its side crashed in, while the motor was torn out of the Wellington craft. This race and the outboard championship were abandoned. In the latter race I. Malpas Rainbow and another Wellington entry were leading. Malpa was thrown out as he was rounding the buoy. The big launch race also provided a thrill. A. M. White's Maritza (Gisborne) collided with Tapper's Kotuku (Waikaremoana), the latter having its bow stove in. Following the buffeting it experienced in earlier running, and after taking the inboard record, E. A. Jones' Baby Pain (Wairoa) sank in 30ft of water.
