BACK TO CAMP.
TROOPS FROM AUCKLAND.
A MEMORABLE CHRISTMAS.
Their Christmas and final leave over, troops on holiday in Auckland are packing their kits.
The first batch—those from the Burnham camp, Christchurch — will leave by train for Wellington this evening. Other units will be leaving for Trentham, Papakura and Hopuhopu at various times to-morrow.
It has been a memorable Christmastide for the soldier on leave. After over three months of solid graft a holiday at home was his beet present. He made the most of it. One result,- of course, is a pay book much thinner than at the beginning of the month. But these men are soldiers. "Of course I'm broke. Absolutely flat," one man said this morning. "So what?"
Now it is serious business for all. Officers and men alike have a determination to get down to really hard work again.
