IN THE PUBLIC MIND.
WAR.
ASSISTANCE TO THE STATE.
(To the Editor.)
Xew Zealand is engaged in a war which will probably be a death struggle between the most gigantic nations on earth, and it must take steps accordingly to meet this position. For the future one must ascertain the facts, and they are that under the present Government's regime we are in a very parlour financial position—for instance, limitation of imports and exports. In control of Cabinet just now there is not one man who has been in business, much less a successful business man. The Government now must spesk for people of Xew Zealand, and should not be in power for the purpose of carrying out. its policy of the socialisation of Xew Zealand. These are the facts, and may I make a plea that if Xew Zealand will not form a Xational Government (which the Labour party i* against), then may we have co-opted' th • assistance of leading business men of tlii* country, in order that we may.carry on thw country successfully during a terrible war. Tn England—l see by^your paper—they ha.vo co-opted Messrs. Forsyth and Davis to cantrolling positions. We in Xcjv Zealand have only co-opted civil servants. We know that as a result of the hasty action in connection with benzine that thousands of men have lost their jobs; no business man would have acted as the Government did in connection with this matter. I therefore enter a plea that the Government should obtain the assistance of business men to assist in this country during the war period, as I consider that business men are the most important gentlemen in the community, and this is the only hope Xew Zealand lias of successfully doing her part in this terrible war.
