GAMBLING, SAYS CANON.
"NO HARM DONE" DECLARES MAYOR LONDON, August 20. They hold a carnival week in the ancient borough of Hartlepool, which boasts of a charter from King John.
Says Canon F. T. Salter, the Rector of Hartlepool: "There are too many gambling games allowed on the Tow* Moor, and to much rowdyism."
Says the Rev. A. C. Hague, Vicar of Holy Trinity, Hartlepool: "I spend my j>ennies in the so-called gambling sideshows. You do the 6ame.
"Never mind those who criticise. Such folk have always been, and always will be. They have their uses."
Says ttio Mayor of Hartlepool (Alderman R. Carter): "The carnival forms a welcome break in the otherwise dull or drab lives of the people. No harm is done."
