LICENSES REQUIRED.
TRANSPORT AMENDMENT. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Friday. The commissioner of transport, Mr. G. L. Laurenson, in a statement to-day said that the recent amendment to transport legislation means that h licence under the Transport Act is now required by all taxis, town carriers and certain ancillary users, that is. business firms who use their own vehicles for the conveyance of their own goods. In the case of ancillary users, the licence will be required by those operators who use trucks that weight more than two tons laden over routes that include not less than 30 miles of Government railway. Farmers and market gardeners are, however, exempt from this requirement.
Applications for licenses, will not be required from taxi operators in Thames, Hamilton. Taumarunui and Cliristchurch who have already been licensed under the Transport Act. The lodging of applications for licences is a matter of urgency, and operators are advised that it is in their own interests to give this matter immediate attention.
