CONTROL IN AUCKLAND.
WOMEN'S MEETING CALLED
1 "amnions adoption of the Emergency Precautions Scheme, which has been prepared in Auckland and is now functioning, was agreed upon at a representative conference, convened by the . lay or of Auckland, Sir Ernest Davie and held yesterday afternoon. All the metropolitan local authorities and smaller local bodies were represented. Sir Ernest said to-day that henceforth the scheme would take substance. Mr r-i'f * membe r of the Auckland city Council, and the city engineer, Mr. , Tyler, went to Wellington last evening to support in person the application to the Government that the organisation should be recognised central and only authority for such duties in the Auckland metropolitan area, and to discuss the adoption of the scheme to meet the present crisis and conform to national requirements. Basis Of Finance. Sir Ernest added that it had been agreed at the conference that the basis of financing the operations of the organisation would lie a contribution of four-fifths by the local authorities and one-fifth by the ad hoc bodies, on the basis of the mean of population and valuation in the case of the local authorities, and on the gross revenue of flic nd hoc bodies. The finance commit tee, which would have the responsibility and handling of all applications for appropriations, would be comprised of the Mayor of Auckland, Messrs. A. S. Bailey and E. F. Andrews, the chairman of the Auckland Harbour Board (Mr. W. B. Darlow), the chairman of the Auckland Electric Power Board (Mr. S. .T. Harbutt), the Mayor of One Tree Hill (Mr. 1. .T. Goldstine). the Mayor of Mount Eden (Mr. R. .T. Mills), the Mayor of Mount Albert (Mr. H. A. Anderson) and the Mavor of Devonport (Mr. H. F. W. Meiklc). Activities of Women. Sir Ernest said tliat a meeting would be held next Tuesday morning for the purpose of co-ordinating the activities of Auckland women and to prevent overlapping in that regard. He had decided to call a conference of Mayoresses and presidents of all the women's organisations in the metropolitan area, including the branches of the women's auxiliary. From that conference it was hoped to establish an active executive which would control the women's side and enable it to become a coherent and integral part of the main emergency precautions scheme organisation.
