NAMING TREES.
May I express the pleasure which I f and which is no doubt shared by many, at seeing the names on the trees in Albert Park. Most people would like to know the names of trees, hut unless the desire he very strong it is a.pt to be stifled by the lack of facility in learning them. Too often in pniblic places the only plants which hear labels are tl:' 1 less common ones, so that the beginner is not helped. Incidentally, the labels, 'being inserted in the ground, are apt to be transposed fay gardeners in the course of their operations, thus further bewildering and discouraging the learner. The labels in Albert Park, however, are not exposed to this danger, and most o the trees arc not uncommon in the district. While there I observed the attention the?e labels received from other visitors, and I a ® sure that many tree lovers would he plea® e to see some recognition of this service. W. F. HARRIS.
