N.Z. CHAMPIONSHIPS. HAWKZSWOBTK DEFEATED. (B7 Telegraph—Press Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH, Friday. The Wairarapa-New Zealand badminton singles champion, Philip Hawkesworth, was beaten to-night in the semi-tinal at the national tournament at New Plymouth by R. H. Lewis (Auckland), runner-up last year. Lewis will meet J. Spedding (Taranaki) in the final to-morrow night. Tlic women's final will be between Miss F. Fernie (Wellington) and Miss M. Kerr (Dunedin). Men's Singles.—J. Spedding (Taranaki) beat J. Payton (Wairarapa), 1.5—7. 15—8; R. Lewis (Auckland) beat P. Hawkesworth (Wairarapa), holder, 11 —15, 15—7, 15—10.

Women's Singles.—Miss F. Fernie (Wellington) beat Miss Pavton (Wairarapa), 11—3, 11 —5; Mists M. Kerr (Otago) 'beat Miss Edmonson (Waikato), 7 —ll, 11 —5, 11—3.

Men's Doublcfe. —Hawkesworth and G. A. Pearce (Wellington) beat P. Anderson (Auckland) and L. Vesty (Hawke's Bay), 15—3. 15 —7; C. L. Sheerin (Manawatu) and Payton beat M. T. Wilson and R. H.
