MINIMUM RATE £5 10/-.

CASUAL WORKERS' COVERED,

A minimum wage of £5 10/ a week, with no deductions except for sickness, accident, or default, is provided under the new Northern Industrial District Coopers' Award, Issued to-day by the Arbitration Court.

Casual workers — workers employed for a period of less duration than one week—shall be paid a minimum rate of 2/10} an hour.

In n memorandum to the award Mr. J. A. Gllmour, S.M., states that wages, term of award and casual workers were the clauses in dispute. ''These have been settled on the lines of recent awards made by the Court in the industry," states the memorandum. For worker* employed in freeiing companies the award provide*, an extension of the ordinary hours of work per week (set down at 40) by lour, to be worked on Saturday morning at ordinary rates.

The award comes into force on August 21 anrl will remain in force until August 21, 1041.
