SURPRISING FIND.

ELDERLY MAN'S SAVINGS.

NOTES DATE BACK 20 YEARS

Rome people put their savings in banks, or invest thorn in tempting local body debentures, but there are exceptions. and some strange repositories are used. One elderly Auckland man, an employee of the Auckland Cfty Council for the past 2H years, has made a practice of keeping his money in a brown brief bug, and the story about it is unusual.

For a, number of years he has been in charge of a cloakroom near the Graft on Bridge. A few days ago he became ill and was tnken to the Auckland Hospital.

Hi* successor was another City Council employee, who discovered the brief bag bidden behind some mops and brooms in ii corner. Fie opener! the bag and wa.j surprised to find that it was filled with banknotes, some £"> notes, some dating hark to over 21 years ago.

The finder counted up to £200, and then sent, the lma and all its contents to tho Town Hall, where city officials made a count that reachcd £(M 2.

The owner had carried the bag to his work for years, and while ho worked it was kept In an inconspicuous corner. The contents had accumulated an time •went, on and represented a considerable portion of a life's saving* out of a comparatively small wage.

The money is now in safe custody until tho owner can claim it. Put it is likely that when he jjoes back to work the "nest egg" will be kept somewhere else.
