CANTERBURY WANT A MATCH AFTER WELLINGTON.

At the meeting of the control board of the Auckland Football Association last night (Mr. L. Munro presiding) a letter •was received from the Canterbury Association agreeing to the Wellington challenge for the English trophy taking precedence, but drawing attention to the fact that in so agreeing it was clearly understood that a match with Canterbury for the trophy must take place lateij in the season. Flyger Rose Bowl.

The Wellington Association challenged for the Flyger Rose Bowl, inviting the Auckland team to plav on No. 2 ground at the Basin Reserve, Wellington, at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 2. It was stated that this Would give the teams an opportunity of witnessing the final of the Chatham Cup, which would be played on No. 1 ground later. After gome discussion of objections it was agreed to notify Wellington that, considering all the circumstances, the Auckland Association was of the opinion that it would be inadvisable to accept the invitation. It was agreed to submit dates to South Auckland for its challenge. The junior management committee reported that the local primary schools' tournament would commence at Victoria Park on Monday next, continuing on Tuesday and Wednesday. The winning teams of this competition will proceed to Rotorua the following week to take part in the northern section of the North Island tournament for the Ford ham Shield. The annual "Stars of Yesteryear" match will be played on September 23 as a cur-tain-raiser to the Auckland v. Navy representative match.
