WHITE IN LEAD IN BILLIARDS FINAL.

M. D. White (holder) established a leail of 138 points at half-way in the final of the Auckland xirovincial amateur billiards championship with R. Carrick last evening. Played at Messrs. Billiards, Limited's. showrooms, the match will be concluded to-night.

The players quickly settled down to their game, Carrick registering a run of 24, while White made a break of 35, Just failing with a rather difficult cut on the red ball. Carrick soon compiled a run of 20 at his next visit. AVhite reached the lirst hundred mark with a lead of about 20.

. With characteristic steadiness, White increased his lend by notching a run of 31. Carrick made an attractive break of 44 and was unfortunate in just missing a rather difficult, cannon. A boufof safety play followed, neither making any headway. Carrick gained applause with a break of s<> made in artistic style. The scores at this stage were 234 to 227 in favour of White.

White, who was favoured with the run of the play, forged ahead once more. Concentrating on the red hall, he added a run of 42. At Ills next visit to the table he played nicely in an all-round break <>£ 4!». The scores at this stage were 414 to 250 in the holder's favour.

Carrick added runs over 20 to his total. He gave a nice display in a run of 37 and at this stage improved his position considerably. White maintained his artrnntage and gained session points with an unfinished' break of 38.
