TROTTING.

CLAYPOT IMPROVING.

SEVERAL SMART TRIALS. THIS MORNING'S TRACK WORK Quite a gallery of spectators witnessed some interesting trials at Alexandra Park this morning, when candidates for the coming Auckland meeting were sent along on the dirt track, which was in pretty fair condition. The novice performer Claypot showed improvement in running the last half mile of her work in 1.7. This young Jack Potts pacer has shown steady advancement since she finished in a place at the last fixture at Epsom.

Other smart efforts were recorded by Bronze King, Red Flush, Shrewdie, Munga Tangi, Forest Jewel, Tsana, Great Parry, Amywin, Lady Vasclyne and the trotter Gay Moko. The last-named never previously looked as well as she does at present and she give a good account of herself at the meeting.

The first to work were Amywin (E. X. Kenneriey), Lady Vasclyne (J. J. Kennerley) and Monty Chimes (A. Paton), the last-named leaving the mile-and-a-quarter post a second in front of her companions. Amywin joined the leader after they had covered six furlongs, and in the run home Lady Vasclyne and Amywin cleared out from Monty Chimes to record 3.1 for the journey, the last half mile taking 1.9. Montv Chimes' time for the distance was 3.3 2-5.

Fortex (Sperling), Tinker (Fowler) and Red Flush (Stewart) went away from the mile-and-a-half post on terms, and Fortex was just behind his companions at the end of a mile in 2.22. In the sprint home Fortex joined the leaders and they went past the post together in 3.32, the last half mile taking 1.10. Red Flush revelled in his work and could have done better.

Five horses took part in the next workout, Sweet Aloes S. M. August) and C'lavpot (G. Paton) going away one second in front of Ringstone (W. Fleming) and Gipsy Light (J. Paton). with Eighteen Carat (T. Carlyon) following four seconds later. Claypot was going freely just in front of Sweet Aloes after they had gone three-quarters of a mile, with Eighteen Carat about three seconds behind. The pace was then clapped on by the leader and She completed a mile and a quarter in 2.59. the last half mile in I.7—a decidedly good trial. Sweet Aloes showed improvement in finishing a couple of lengths away, but Eighteen Carat disappointed, taking 3.2 for the journey.

Lucky Lova Moves Well. Lucky Love (C. M. Morrison) went well without the hopples to run two miles in 4.44, the final half mile taking 1.8. Her companion was Munga Tangi (L. Laver) — with the straps on —and he, too, showed dash, the two being on terms throughout. They ran the first mile in 2.20, and the next half in 1.16, coming home well over the final section.

Isabel Derby (J. J. Kennerley), -who has made steady progress since she arrived here a few weeks ago, worked with Three Bells (E. 3f. Kennrrley), and the pair showed fine dash over a two-furlong sprint in 335, Isabel Derby just shading her companion.

Tsana (Tracey) and Great Parry (Stewart) were under restraint in running a mile in 2.30, after which they went freely over another half in 1.8 2-5. They were on terms at the finish, but Tsana was on , the outside. throughout and made more appeal than his companion.

The trotters Gold Kip (S. M. August), Charteris. Bay (Cole) and Gay Moko ,(J. Mahoney) went away from the mile and a hall post in that order, at intervals o£ one second. Gay Moko broke after going six furlongs, but settled down quickly and was with Gold Kip in front at the end of a mile. She then drew away to complete a mile and a 'half in 3.41, the last half 1.10. Gold Kip s time for the jourpey was 3.44. Charteris Bay was trotting nicely just behind Gay Moko and Gold Kip at the end of a mile and a quarter, but then left his feet and dropped back. '•"Dick 'Redmond trotted three circuits without .mistake'at a 2.36 gait. The Aus-tralian-bred trotter is a fit horse.

Shrewdie (J. J. Kennerley) went away from the mile and a half peg just in front of Bronze King (E. N. Kennerley), and they covered a mile in 2,29. speeding over the next half in 1.8, to be on terms at the finish.

Musketeer, (S. M. August) was never going pleasingly, in a two-mile effort, which took »■ him 4.45, after running the first mile and a half in 3.34.
