WELLINGTON, Wednesday,

The serious position affecting the credit of New Zealand by reason of importers now being unable to meet their obligations in respect of goods now on the water or ordered under import licenses was discussed by the council of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce last night. The council decided to place before the Associated Chambers of Commerce three points, with a view to their being put to the Government for answer.

These points were:—What provision ia the Government making for commitments overseas which cannot be can* celled? What provision i« it making for shipments on the water which could not be stopped because of lack of advice of the intention of the Reserve Bank in relation to these shipments? What is the advantage to the trading community of export credits granted to the Government by the British Government, and when will the benefit of such export credits be available f
