AT AIR FORCE BASE.
TENDERS BEING CALLED,
Plans for an administrative block at the Whenuapai operational nir station, now under construction, include the provision of a meteorological station and other special features. Tendera for the erection of the block, which will be a two-storey concrete building, are now being called by the Public Works Department.
On the ground floor of the building will be operation rooms, orderly room and offices. A feature will l>e a projecting watch window, from which a view of the whole aerodrome will be possible. On the other floor will be the meteorological department. Provision has been mode on the roof for an anemometer mast, with a recording instrument in the room below. The roof will also store screen coverings for the release of balloons and the firing of I pyrotechnic signal rings.
Tenders have also been called for the erection of engine repair and testing shops and a social hall for the staff at the Hobsonville air base. This social hall will include a stage and dressing rooms, and will be used a* a cinema hall. There will also be a canteen in the building, a store and shop, a barber's saloon, a kitchen, and a flat for the caretaker.
When Whenuapai starts operations Hobsonville will be used chiefly for storage and repair work.
