THIS SHAM DEMOCRACY.

Now that Parliamentary debates are broadcast the public can see what a howling sham, and a farce the whole procedure is. It took about four weeks to debate the Address-in-Replv amendment and the voting was exactly the same as if the vote had been taken before the debate. Nobody was enlightened by all this talk, much of it of a very personal nature, and the cost to the country is about ten shillings a minute. There are far too many members of Parliament. Most people consider half as many would be ample, while some believe a quarter, or 20, would suffice, and so they would if elected by proportional representation. Parliament dare not 6ubmit this question to a referendum, as members know most of them would lose their jabs. So there is no constitutional way of carrying out the expressed wish of the people. E. STEVENSON.
