SMOKING BAN.
HOSPITAL NURSING STAFF.
BOARD CALLS FOR REPORT
Complaint that the female etaff employed at the Nurses' Home was prohibited from smoking in the staff fitting room was made by Mr. F. O. Young, secretary of the Auckland Hotel and KcMaurant Employee*" Union, in a letter received at a meeting of the Auckland Hospital Board last evening. He ..aid that >i« a result of the enforcement of a regulation by a sister ill charge, the liirU com plained that if they wished to smoke they had to do so ill the bathroom. He considered that the regulation was harsh and unreasonable. Air. W. K. Howitt said it was common in in-litutions to have one room where smoking was not allowed. Dr. 11. N'oitlnroft said she understood that the regulation was a precaution against lire. The matter was referred to the lady r-uperiiitendenl, -Miss E. M. Xutsey, for a report.
