DASH TO AUCKLAND.
NO DOCTOR ABOARD.
Although official advice has not vet been received in Auckland, it is thought that the United States motor ship Tampa en route from Melbourne to Xew ,0 , as changed her course to Auckland in order that proper medical attention can be given to one of her officers who is stated to be seriouslv ill. Iho Auckland Hospital * lias been advised to expect the patient, although the date of the vessel's arrival is as vet unknown. However, there is a po'ssi- ! jj thatt the officer will be transferred to n.M.S. Achilles, which is in the vicinity and which will reach Auckland next Fridav.
Several days ago the Dutch liner Maetsuvcker, which arrived at Auckland yesterday morning, received an urgent wireless message from the Tampa, stating that the officer was seriouslv ill. and, as there was no medical mail aboard, requested that the Maetsuvekcrs doctor give instructions for the care of the patient. This was done. Lenothv messages were exchanged between"the vessels, but it is understood that the patient did not respond to the treatment, and that the Maetsuveker's doctor urged the Tampa to make all speed for Auckland.
