ST. BENEDICT'S CHURCH.
St. Renediet Church. Xewton. yestcrflay celebrated its; yolden jubilee! The churt'li was solemnlv blessed and opened nn April 22. ISSB. and therefore tlie jubilee fell last year. However it. was postponed in order to avoid clashing with the Roman Catholic centennial.
Beginning with early Ma« t « in the morning. the celebrations concluded at evening devotions last night, when the Sacrament of Confirmation was administered by BUhop Liston, and a Te Deuni. a hymn of thanksgiving, sung. Bislio]> Liston. at Solemn Hi-ih Mass. celebrated by the Rev. Father M. .1. La veil e at 11 a.m.. spoke on the parish church and its meaning to parishioners, prefaced by an historical account of the foundation of the church.
