SWITCHBOARD FIRE.
When a switchboard caught fire at the _ headquarters of the Young Men's Christian Association in Wellesley Street East shortly after 8.30 o'clock last evening the whole building was deprived of power and light, and it is hoped that these services will be in commission again by this evening. No difficulty was experienced in extinguishing the outbreak, which occurred in the main switchboard, but considerable damage was done to the wiring. The two main leads into the building were disconnected by workmen last night and this eliminated any further danger of fire. No lighting was available, and most of the activities were discontinued and those in the building went to bed by the light of torches and candles.
