WOKE WITH START.

PICTON STREET SURPRISE.

CAREER OF RUNAWAY CAR.

Members of the Fredatovich family, lti, Picton Street, off Ponsonby Road, thought Santa Claus had arrived with a bang yesterday morning.

A rending noise and a crash nearly startled them out of their beds just before six o'clock. Pressing wondering eyes to the windows, they saw a shiny new car almost alongside the back door of their house.

"It looked too good to be true," laughed Mr. If. Frcdatovich, jun., today. "We feared that someone might be inside the car, which had crashed through our galvanised iron fence on the street level and slid down the high bank to the side of our house. We were relieved to find it was unoccupied."

It turned out that the car had been left parked 011 the fairly steep slope of liarrie Street, 200 yards away, and, running away, had careered across Picton Street and through tile fence of Xo. 10. Surprisingly little damage seemed to have been done to the car, which was towed out this morning.
