STRONGROOM BLOWN.

THIEVES AT MORNINGSIDE.

£18 XIV CASK STOLEN

Burglars who have been operating in the Morningside district attacking safes for several nights with little success carried out a successful raid last night on tho office at the factory of Iv.D.V. Boxe«, Limited, boxmakers and timber merchants, McDonald Street, Morningside, and blew open tho back of the strongroom. They secured about £18 in cash.

After gaining entrance by forcing a back door, tho safebreakers went to the office where they were unsuccessful in their attack on tho front door of the strongroom, which is Bft in height. Marks left on the front door show that heavy instruments were used in an endeavour to priso it open. Not to be foiled the operators drilled a hole in the back of the strongroom and inserted a chargo of gelignite. Tho force of tho explosion was so strong that it blew a holo large enough for a man to walk through. Tho thieves stole £18 in cash. Tho office at tho factory of the Napier Concrete Company, 3, Argyle Street, Morningside, was also entered last night, a rear door being forced. The thieves took the front door of a concrete safe off its hinges, but the safe was empty.
