COMMENTS BY CAPTAIN. (By Telegraph.—Pivhh Association.) WELLINGTON, Friday. The New Zealand Federation of Labour Ims paused a motion protesting ugainst a statement alleged to have boon made by Captain A. H. Dnvcy, master of the tnins-Tasman liner Awutea, to the effect that "nobody was working in this blaatud country." The federation requests an apology to workers, fulling which, it is stated, workers affiliated to the organisation will tako such action as may be deemed necessary to compel a cessation of unwarranted attacks on workers. Captain Davoy is away from New Zealand at present, but before leaving on hie trip to Sydney this week he is •t»ted to havo denied responsibility for the statement attributed to him. The general manager of the Union Steam Ship Company of New Zealand, Limited, Mr. J. N. Greenland, when seen thia evening, said it appeared clear that Captain Davey had been discussing the trouble caused by stowaways on his vessel, and his remarks had been directed against them, not against workers.
