BIG FAREWELL PLANNED.
A decision to hold a public farewell to the Auekland members of the New Zealand team at Carlaw Park on July 122 was made by the control board of tne Auckland Rugby League last evening. The board was assured of tlie wholehearted co-operation ol the junior and school grades and a full parade of players. it was also indicated that the Maori teams and their supporters in the game were prepared to participate in a unique ceremony for the occasion. Mr. F. T. McAneny was appointed master ot ceri»uonies for tlie day. Arising from a recent discussion on the replacing of players, the City Rovers club suggested that the oncoming player should notify tli-. line umpire and. as soon as he was able, i: Mfy tlie referee, thus eliminating any delay which may otherwise occur. Mr. J. Kukutai said his opinion was that the replacing player should go on as soon as possible. Mr. Campbell said the City Club idea seemed to be reasonable. It was in the spirit of the game, for no team should be handicapped. The difficulty of a player to contact a referee sometimes during a game could be undersrood. It was decided that the proposal be sent on to the Referees' Association with a suggestion that this may be a satisfactory solution to a phase of replacement of players. The first series of matches in the first round, missed by the reserve grade during the visit of Eastern Suburbs of Sydnev, is to be played on the date of the inter-Island match. July S.
