NINE MILES SAVED.
NEW DEVIATION OPENED. CHRISTCHURCH - DUNEDIN HIGHWAY. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) ASHBURTON, Saturday. The Rangitata deviation, which cuts off nearly nine miles on the ChrstchurchDunedin highway, was officially opened at Rangitata by the Minister of Public Works, the Hon. R. Semple, this morning. The scheme, which involved the construction of two bridges, cost about £150,000, the bridges absorbing £43,000. In his speech the Minister said motorists would be saved about £13,000 annually.
