TWO EXTRA HOLES.

COLTMAN CUP FINAL.

SUCCESS FOB G. M. GRAHAM.

The final of the handicap match play competition for the Coltman Cup was played over 36 holes on the Akarana links during the week-end, when G. M. Graham (9) defeated D. Merryweather (19) on the thirty-eighth green. During the eliminating series of this contest both players had earned handicap reductions, Graham reducing to 7, while Merryweather came down to 13. The match, however, was play.'d from the original handicaps, with Merryweather receiving eight strokes in each round.

Graham held the lead throughout the morning round and went to lunch with a one-hole lead. The two opening holes in the afternoon round were halved, but with a run of 4, 4, 3, Graham won the twentylust, twenty-second and twenty-third in a row to gain a lead of 4 up. Merryweather reduced the deficit with wins at the twenty-sixth and twenty-seventh, and ths turn was reached with Graham 2 up. A pulled tee shot cost Merryweather the twenty-eighth, but he won the twentyninth with the aid of a stroke. Graham won the thirtieth with a sound 4 to place him 3 up; the short thirty.third was halved in 3. Merryweather won the difficult thirty-second and thirty-third with good fours and did not require to use his strokes at these holes. Graham played the short thirty-fourth weakly to allow'Merryweather to square the match, but he made amends at the thirty-fifth, in winning the hole with a well played four. The thirty-sixth went to Merryweather, where he received his last stroke and the players continued their long trudge to the thirtyseventh, which was halved in 5. Both hit good tee shots to the thirty-eighth, with Merryweatlier playing the better approach shot Graham being just a little short. Graham, however, chipped up to within six feet, and when Merryweather elected to use a putter on the rain-soaked green he left himself outside his opponent, and was not equal to the next. Graham made no mistake with his putt to settle the issue.
