R.A.F. FATALITIES.
Fighter Strikes Ground At 400 Miles An Hour. BOMBER ABLAZE IN FLIGHT. (Received 12 noon.) LONDON, June 20. A single-seater Hurricane Fighter crashed during a thunderstorm in Sussex and hit the ground while travelling at the rate of 400 miles an hour. The engine was buried 40 feet. The pilot, who attempted to use his parachute but failed, was killed. A sergeant of the Royal Air Force was killed, and an officer and an aircraftsman parachuted to safety when a Fairey Battle bomber engaged in night exercises caught fire in mid-air and crashed near Netherhanipton early this morning.
