STATEMENT BY MINISTER
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WANCAXUI, this day. I "I am not going to find work for men at their back door at the invitation of any Chamber of Commerce. The men will have to go to work on roads most 1 profitable to the nation," said the Hon. : K. bemple when interviewed a request from the Raetihi Chamber of Commerce and other local bodies iu Raetihi and Ohakune that he should find work for men in that locality now employed on a land development scheme which i? nearing an end. The Minister explained only single men were idle, that 77 would not "be idle till next month, with a further 3S iu August. The Public Works Department wae now being asked to find employment. This could not be done in a day, and the engineers had been instructed to look round and advise on suitable and profitable work for which the nioet capable men could be selected.
