PLAYER REPLACED AND REFEREE DOES NOT KNOW.

The fact that on Saturday at Carlaw Park a Ponsonby player replaced an injured player and played for the rest of the name without the knowledge of the referee was brought to the notice of the Auckland Rugby League Control Board last evening by the Referees' Association. On the suggestion of the acting chairman, Mr. F. J. McAneny, it was resolved to notify the clubs and the senior clubs' officers that any player replacing an injured player must report to the referee before taking the field. An application from the South Auckland Rugby League for a representative fixture against Auckland before the main Knglieh-tour trials was discussed briefly and it was decided that at present a way of arranging the match could not be seen, but the matter would be further considered with a view to the game taking place as soon as possible in the season. The South Auckland centre pointed out that its representative side was undefeated for two seasons and had twice beaten the Auckland Maori team recently. The case of a referee calling off a senior B match because a team mustered only eight players for the match was the subject of a request, on behalf of the junior management, by Mr. D. Wilkie for a ruling as to what constituted a team for the purposes of a fixture taking place. He explained that the team in question had been handicapped by influenza and injuries to player*. The board decided that a game should proceed if the reduced team had seven players and it desired to play.

The thanks of the Ist Battery X.Z.F.A. were tendered to the Rugby League for courtesy extended on King's Birthday to visiting members from Wellington. The letter stated that the visitors greatly enjoyed the afternoon at Carlaw Park, the facilities at which were much appreciated. Player Registrations.—o. X. Sanderson i Mount Albert I. R. O. Taylor (Marist Old Boys). F,. Clarke and K. Smith (City Hovel's) and K. Mills (Richmond Rovers).
