WASH AND CHANGE.

HOTEL CHARGES 11A

POLICE CHIEF COMPLAINS. LICENSING COMMITTEE'S VIEWS. I (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) HAMILTON', Thursday.

A complaint by the Commissioner o f Police. Mr. D. J. dimming*, that he considered the charge of 11/ made to him by the Hamilton Hotel for the use of a loom in which to wash and change whs exorbitant was received at a meeting of the Hamilton District Licensing Committee to-dav.

The hotel management explained that as they could not watch every room, and some people were in the habit of usinpr a room all day, although only taking it for a wash and change, the charge was considered adequate.

Tlie chairman of the committee, Mr. S. L. Patterson, S.M.. considered the charge to be too high in view of the rdiorhigu of accommodation in the town. The committee also urged the revision of the licensing laws, quoting that in England licensing authorities had the power to inquire into the terms and condition* of contracts secured by licensees from proprietors, and this authority should be extended to New Zealand.
