NEED FOR HELP.
N.Z. SHEEP-FARMERS.
REMITS TO CONFERENCE.
DELEGATES COMPLETE WORK.
Sheep farmers' troubles were the essence of the first two remits passed at the Fanners' Conference this morning. Captain H. M. Rushworth presided.
Ihe first stated that the conference, while believing that a long-term policy should be directed to reduction of costs to a 'point that enabled profitable primary production, as an emergency measure to meet the present crisis in sheep farming, it advocated the issue of a special Reserve Bank credit, nonrepayable and non-interest-bearlnar. for the payment of a compensated price 011 meat and wool. Such price should be paid through freezing works and wool brokers without the commandeer of produce and be sufficient to satisfy definite conditions
The conditions outlined were:—To allow the fanner to pay competitive rates for wages; allow him interest on capital invested in land and stock; to allow him to meet increased costs imposed by legislation, including tariffs; and to give him a remuneration commensurate with the service he rendered and with that obtained by other members of the community who rendered equal service.
A further remit was carried adding that pending the adoption of the measures set out as above, and as a measure of immediate relief, the conference considered the most equitable and satisfactory method of assisting the sheep industry was by a flat-rate subsidy per pound of wool sold by wool producers in New Zealand.
The conference concluded at noon, and this afternoon delegates and their wiv.-s were the <ruests of the Auckland Harbour Board, when they were taken to the various points of interest around the harbour.
