SUCCESSFUL YEAR.
ZOOLOGICAL SOCIETY.
The annual report of the Auckland Zoological Society, which will be presented at the annual meeting ol members 011 Monday evening, records a successful year, ami mentions that there is a membership of 142. The report states that the society has completed iu tenth year. Much of the work of the past year was of an educational nature, an essay competition for school children being held, and suitable books 011 natural history given as prizes. A field day was well attended.
The report add-; that the interest of citizens and visitors in the zoological park was maintained. Eesti ictions placed by the fSovernnient on the capture of native birds, and the importation of certain animals into Xew Zealand. still existed, and that militated to a large extent against the development of a native bird aviarv and the purchase of certain overseas exhibits. Xo progress had !>?en made in the matter, hut the Minister of Internal Affair®, the Hon. ■ E. Parry, had promi-cd to give it consideration.
