TWO-HOUR TALK.

Polo-Soviet Relations Now Satisfactory. FOODSTUFFS FOB GERMANY. (Received 2 p.m.) LONDON, May 10. "The Times" Warsaw correspondent says M. Potemkin conferred with Cojonel Beck for two hours and later left for Moscow. Despite the veil of unofficiality, the visit is most important. The public has been again assured that Polo-Soviet relations are developing satisfactorily. A Polish Government committee recommends the suspension of deliveries of foodstuffs to Germany under the PoloGerman trade pact, pending a readjustment of the treaty, provided Poland exchanges foodstuffs and machinery on long-term credits. The committee reports that Germany has failed in the delivery of machinery and owes Poland £1,600,000 under the agreement. The reason for the failure is the high price and unsuitability of the machinery and the excessive German interest rate. RHODESIA'S DEFENCE. CONSCRIPTION* IF NEEDED. (Received 1.30 p.m.) SALISBURY, May 10. The Defence Minister, Mr. R. C. Tredgold, speaking in the Assembly, said that the Government is organising Southern Rhodesia's man-power. This means that a national register and conscription will be introduced without hesitation if necessary. It is also intended to tax profits and to prevent profiteering.
