PAPAKURA COUNCIL.

The Mayor, Mr, S. Evans, presided over the fortnightly meeting of the l'apakura Borough Council laet evening. Appeal For Recruite.—A promise of .moral support and full sympathy was again given iby the council to an appeal for more recruits in the Auckland Territorial Army, forwarded by the Auckland Provincial Employers' Association. Roadway vereus Footpath.—"Everyone ■uses the scaled surface of the road now instead of the newly-formed footpath in Wairoii Road," wrote a resident of this thoroughfare, complaining that the road metal on the new footpath was too rough, and in wet weather the clay on the edges too eoft. Xew Station Layout.—Advice was received from the district engineer of the Xew Zealand Railways, Mr. H. W. Beesley, with reference to a discussion between the assistant engineer and the Mayor and .borough councillors with regard to the lease of a, piece of land at the entrance to the new suburban platform for a parking area, that the l>e[>artment was prepared to do eo at a purely peppercorn rental. The council would do the work, the Department to provide the

The Department proposed, subject to its -being put to no exDense. to hand over free two triangular pieces of • land at the corners of Railway Street West and Union Street to the council. This would give vehicular traffic from the station a wider turn into Union Street. Both offers were accepted. Permanent Sealing.—Good progress was reported -with the permanent sealing of footpaths in Queen Street, Railway Street West and Broadway. The centre joints of the Great South Road had been completed.
