DOUBLE SCULLS.
HACDONALD AND HOWE WIN.
Trial double sculls for trophies presented by Mr. 11. Schmidt (vice-president) were held by the West Knd Rowing Club. Keen and close racing wa.-i witnessed before H. M. Macdonald and .1. G. Howe were the winners. Results:— First Semi-final.—H. M. Macdonald and J. G. Howe (38) defeated R. Alexander and Q. Carder by a length and a half. Second Semi-final.—B. G. Tupp and R. Smith (ss) won from I. Macdonald and E. Johnson (8s) by a length. Third Semi-final. —H. M. Macdonald and J. G. Howe (3s) defeated M. H. D. Conway and J. Beaton (Is) by a canvas. Final. —The crews of Tupp and H. Macdonald met in a very close contest. At the start Tupp made the most of his two seconds' handicap nnd maintained his slight lead until near the wharf. Here Macdonald issued his challenge and In a close finish managed to beat Tnpp by half a canvas. The winning crew was steered by G. WetiarttU
