TREVIC SHIELD IN HARD BREEZE. THREE BOATS CAPSIZE. VICTORY FOR TAKAFUNA CLUB In spite of a hard south-east wind and a short, choppy sea. the annual inter-club rnee for the Trevie Shield was sailed on Saturday over a short course off Bayswater. Faleon. representing the Takapuna Boating Club, won by 1.44 from Swish, the Devonport Club's nominee. Lyla. representing the Tamakl Yacht Club, capsized Just before the start and two others. Pat C. and Te utu. capsized during the race, but finished later. The entries and clubs represented were: Aotea. Royal Akarana Yacht Club; Swish (defender), Devonport Yacht Club; Falcon. Takapuna Boating Club; Lyla, Tamaki Yacht Club ; Pat C. Victoria Cruising Club : Te tllra. Point Chevalier Sailing Club; Meola. Richmond Cruising Club; Te Ctu, Ponsonby Cruising Club; und Benny, Mannkau Yacht Club. The race started at 3.15 p.m.. the course being from off clubhouse, round outer pile beacon, off Bayswater. round huoy off Northcote Point, and back to clubhouse, once round. This gave a beat out to the end of the piles, a broad lead on port to Northcote. and a run in to the finish. Falcon got the best of the start and. well sailed by her young skipper, Geoff. Entrican, maintained her lend to the finish. Pat ('. was close up to Falcon at the start, followed by Meola, Benny. Te Ctu. Te Uira, Swish, and Aotea. in this order. Falcon's lead was challenged by Swish, which had passed all but the leader at the Northcote mark, and, setting her spinnaker. Swish drew up on Falcon on the last leg. hut by hard luck Swish's spinnaker boom carried away when she was almost level with Falcon and only 2-jO yards from the line. The finish was :—• Falcon.
