KAWHIA'S FUTURE.
VISIT BY MINISTER.
QUESTION OF IMPROVEMENTS
(From Our Corresponflent.)
KAWHIA, Sunday.
To gain a first-hand impression of the best way in which to improve Kawhia as a seaside resort, and to inspect the district generally with a view of improving the access to ..the township, were the reasons for a visit during the week-end by the Hon. R. Semple, Minister of Public Works. Mr. Semple was accompanied by Mr. J. Wood, chief engineer to the Public Works Department, and chairman of the Main Highways Board, and Mr. W. J. Broadfoot, M.P. for Waitomo. The party arrived at six o'clock last evening. They heard deputations from the Kawhia County Council and the Kawhia Town Board, with particular reference to the protection of the waterfront, a water supply for the township, and access roads.
During the evening a welcome was tendered the Minister and Mrs. Semple, who was also present. Mr. J. N. Culley presided, and he said, in welcoming the Minister, he hoped Mr. Semple would favourably consider the various matters raised. Mr. Semple said he would have surveys undertaken immediately for the shortest route from the main highway to Kawhia. Mr. and Mre. Semple left for the Chateau this afternoon, on their return to Wellington.
