MUCH ACTIVITY.

DRILL HALL SCENE. TERRITORIALS SWORN-IN. AUCKLAND SCOTTISH UNIT. With young men in mufti waiting to be sworn-in and with trainees in uniform drilling to commands which came incisively against the noise of marching feet, the Drill Hall in Rutland Street last night was a scene of greater activity than for pome time past. For those in uniform it was merely another week-night parnde, but for those in civilian clothes it was something new, for they were there to join the Territorial Forces of New Zealand. They were, too, joining a regiment of more than ordinary interest and appeal—the Auckland Company of the New Zealand Scottish Regiment. In all 8.» trainees were sworn-in and measured for uniforms. For the present they will be equipped with the familiar khaki serge uniform, but will be iesued with the traditional kilte when these arrive from England. The new company will go into camp for seven days on Saturday week. The training the recruits will receive there will lie of particular value, as it will enable them to settle down and take .stock both of themselves and of their new duties.

The total number alloted to Auckland is 120, so that there are still vacancies. Those wishing to avail themselves of the opportunity of joining the regiment are advised to give in their names as early as possible to the Army Department at Rutland Street.

The unit is under the command of Captain Rob Roy McGregor, formerly of the East Mounted Rifles, while the second in command is Lieutenant H. R. Anderson. As is customary with other New Zealand regiments, the New Zealand Scottish is affiliated with a Motherland regiment—in this eaee it is the famous Black Watch.

Those present in the Drill Hall last night were impressed with the fine stamp of trainee offering. They were of good physique, with a satisfactory number of older men who would be expected to give the unit the stability which is so essential for the maximum cflicienev.
