HELP FOR SPAIN.

I read with much interest the letter from Mr. Arthur O'Halloran in your issue of the 11th inst., and would be very glad if he and any others similarly interested would get into touch with me at the address below. The matter of carrying out what he euggecte Is already under consideration at the first suitable opportunity, and the Council of Christian Congregations hae already expressed its sincere sympathy with the Spanish refugee relief. Most of this work ie now being done under the care of the International Commission and the Society of Friends. The immensity of the work at the present juncture can hardly be realised, and in contrast with the happenings in China, k much worse. In China life goes on much the same in those parts away from railway line* and arterial roads now under Japanese control, but Spain hae also almost all been fought over, with consequent total destruction of homes, farms, crops, etc., and with practically the whole of the dairy cows destroyed, or'valueless from a Xew Zealander's understanding- of stock in areas adjacent to the big centres. The Franco Government is very anxious to receive any help in the feeding problem that it can. as may well be understood, and an arrangement hae been come to under which the work of the Society of Friends organisations, English and U.S.A., together with the International Commission, shall carry on the work that was started by English Friends within a month of the beginning of the civil war. All funds now sent through me will, by arrangement, go direct to the work of the Society of Friends, and will be used for the help of women and children, and infant feeding, both in Spain and France where the urgency exists. ERXEST H. WRIGHT, Hon. Secretary, Society of Friend?.
