BIG INCREASE.

EXPORTS OF MEAT,

SIX MONTHS' RETURNS.

Heavy quantities of fat stock killed for export in recent months, which have taxed the capacity of meat works throughout the North Island are reflet-ted in the returns of the Xew Zealand Meat Producers' Board covering the first six months of the current season. Both exports and killings of all classes of meat, except pork and bobby calves, show a substantial rise on the figure* for the same period' last year. Exports of lambs, for instance, are tip by almost 200.000 carcases, and wether mutton ie up over 320,000 carcases. Shipments for the past three seasons from October 1 to March 31 compare as follows:— 1938-39. 1937-3 S. 193fi-37. Boof— ((imths.) (0 mtlis.) (Binths.) The rush period at the works, resulting from the shortage of feed owing tb the dry spell which has forced farmers to unload stock, is reflected in the big surplus of killings over exports, and consequently large stocks held ready for export.
