MRS. J. D. JORY.
EIGHTY-FIFTH BIRTHDAY.
BIRKENHEAD RESIDENT.
Congratulations on her eighty-fifth birthday were extended this week en behalf of the Methodist community at Birkenhead and Xorthcote to Mrs Matilda Jory, at the meeting of the Birkenhead circuit, of which* she is a member.
She is" the widow of the Rev. J. D. Jory, who for almost 62 years was a minister of the Methodist Church, which ne entered in New South Wales. He was nearly 89 years old when his deatli occurred in June, 1935. After their marriage in 1876 Mr. and Mrs. Jory joined the Methodist Mission in Fiji, where they served at various stations in th,e group for eleven years, and then went to England. They came to New Zealand in 1889 and lived at various centres in the South Island before coming north to the Auckland province in 1906. After the retirement of the Rev. Jory in 1912, they made their home at Birkenhead, where Mr«. Joijjr has continued to live with her daughter, Miss J. M. E. Jory. The other daughter is the wife of the Rev. W. Walker, of Remuera, The three sons Messrs. Philip J. Jory, D.5.0., and Norman A. Jory, of London, and Mr. Harold D. Jory, schoolmaster, of Murray's Bay, all saw active service during the Great War. a
