MAN SENT TO PRISON.

HASTINGS, this day.
"lii this case I can only gather what was in the mind of the man by his actions," said Sir. J. Miller, S.M., when Bertie Starkey (52) appeared at the Hastings Magistrate's Court on a charge of committing an indecent act with the intention of offending a boy. Starkey pleaded not guilty. "On his list he is apparently a person given to thie class of offence and is a menace about this town," said the magistrate. Starkey was sentenced to one year's imprisonment, the maximum for the offence.
